If what you're saying is true. You should get your friends and go as agreed before the bloodshed starts. If you're lying...it'll be your blood that's shed.
— McCreary threatening Murphy [src]

Paxton "Graveyard" McCreary was a recurring character in the fifth season. He was portrayed by William Miller and debuted in Eden. He served as the main antagonist of Season Five.

Paxton was a prisoner aboard the Gagarin that lands on Earth in the Season 4 finale. After instigating the Damocles Event, he was killed by Clarke Griffin.

Early Life[]

At some stage in the past, McCreary was a mob/cartel enforcer from a powerful crime syndicate.[1][2] He was convicted of mass murder and sentenced to an unknown term of hard labor with the Eligius Corporation aboard the ship Eligius IV, mining an asteroid in space. However, in 2047, McCreary participated in a prisoner uprising which was successful in taking over the Eligius vessel. During a mutiny, McCreary also killed the ship's doctor. After breaching the bridge, McCreary slits Captain Stevens' throat, before moving on to execute two more members of the crew who had been held hostage. He and the rest of the prisoners were then put into cryo-sleep for the long journey back to Earth.

According to Shaw, McCreary was once the leader of the prisoners, but gave control up to Diyoza after she led the mutiny on Eligius IV. There are still prisoners that prefer to follow him rather than Diyoza, and as of the end of 'Sic Semper Tyrannis' they are split into two groups, those who follow Diyoza and those who follow McCreary. The prisoners, who follows McCreary, may have been presumably part of his mob cartel, before their imprisonment, as Emori mentions that one of the prisoners with a prison tattoo, works for McCreary.

Throughout the Series[]

In Eden, he, Charmaine Diyoza and Miles Shaw, along with the other prisoners, lands in Shallow Valley on a dropship named Gagarin and heads towards the village.

In Sleeping Giants, In the valley, He and Charmaine lead the other prisoners to continue their search for the inhabitants. Clarke manages to kill four of the prisoners before getting wounded. A couple moments later, Clarke is captured by Paxton and Miles Shaw. McCreary and Shaw disagree on their methods because Shaw is sympathetic while McCreary just wants to kill her. Diyoza orders them to bring Clarke alive for interrogation.

McCreary continues to pursue Madi. Meanwhile, in the village, Clarke refuses to talk until she realizes that McCreary is approaching Madi by the shot distance. Clarke agrees to tell prisoners everything and in return Diyoza orders McCreary to spare Madi's life.

A couple hours later, Spacekru land on the ground, but immediately comes face to face with the prisoners who told the other that there are more people in the alley. On realizing that there are other people, Diyoza asks McCreary to intensify his torture for Clarke, claiming that she lied to them. Madi and Bellamy arrive just when Paxton was dragging Clarke outside to torture her.

In Pandora's Box, he along with the other prisoners help Bellamy and Clarke to open the bunker, He comes down with Charmaine and assesses the situation.

In Shifting Sands, he tortures Raven and Murphy to get the information for unlocking the launch codes for the missiles.

In How We Get to Peace, he is captured by Murphy and Emori. They are willing to offer McCreary back alive in exchange for Raven. When Kane tells Diyoza that they can't trust Murphy, she tells Murphy to kill McCreary if they want to. When McCreary wakes up, Murphy reveals that Diyoza doesn't care about him. McCreary becomes angry at Diyoza but is impressed by Murphy's bomb skills. He asks Murphy to join his gang. So, they come up with a plan for McCreary to pretend that he's captured Murphy, but take him into the camp to rescue Raven. Emori half-heartedly agrees to the plan. When McCreary arrives at the valley, Diyoza watches as she marches down to face him.

In Sic Semper Tyrannis, McCreary is mad that Diyoza refused to trade Raven for his life. And Diyoza has been asking Abby to hide the cure from McCreary and his people so that they can all die out. So, Murphy tells McCreary about the cure to make him angry at Diyoza; and Echo tells Diyoza to prepare for McCreary. This leads to a showdown between McCreary and Diyoza's people. Diyoza tries to avoid a fight by coming clean about the cure and telling them her plans for the valley. This calms both sides down, to Murphy's disappointment.

Out of options, Murphy decides to incite a fight by throwing a stone at the crowd. This instantly causes both sides to break into a fight. Later, Murphy and Kane go to the medical room where McCreary and Diyoza start fighting for Abby. McCreary's men manage to capture Abby. Diyoza beats McCreary down as she reveals that she's pregnant with his baby.

Diyoza flees with Kane, Murphy, and the others. Afterwards, McCreary wakes up and declares that he's taking over the leadership. He orders his people to hunt all the traitors especially Shaw, Raven and her friends. He also makes it clear that he will not honor Diyoza's peace treaty with Clarke.

In The Dark Year,

In Damocles (Part 1),

In Damocles (Part 2),

In False Gods, when Raven introduces herself to Hatch he remembers her as McCreary's "guest" and comments that he does not miss "that jackass." Nikki counters that McCreary never would've settled for a squatter's camp for his people.

In The Queen's Gambit, Diyoza tells Hope that she can thank her real father for the Earth being destroyed twice. Hope states that her mother never told her about McCreary and asks Diyoza to tell her everything about him. Diyoza describes McCreary as a psychopath and a killer who she only had sex with to get McCreary on her side during the uprising on Eligius IV. Diyoza states that it wasn't her best decision, but it led to the best that ever happened to her: Hope.

Personality[]

McCreary is a power-hungry and sadistic criminal who doesn't hesitate to kill those who stand in his way. He is not above using torturous methods or executing innocents if it leads to him getting what he wants. He has also shown a willingness to sacrifice his own people, dropping the Damocles bomb on the valley before most of his people evacuated, showing he only truly cares about himself. However, when he's about to kill Diyoza, he backs off when she mentions their unborn child, proving he cares at least somewhat about his unborn daughter’s life.

Physical Appearance[]

Paxton is a tall white male, with long brown hair in the middle with a buzz cut on either side of his head and a full beard. He wears the armor of the former security guards including a stamped service badge on the right chest plate.

Relationships[]

Charmaine Diyoza[]

She had sex with McCreary in order to get him on her side so she could do the uprising on Eligius IV, due to this she got pregnant with their child. Diyoza told him that he is her favorite mass murderer. Diyoza and McCreary have a lot of disagreements about leading the Eligius prisoners, even when Diyoza refused to trade McCreary with Raven Reyes after he was captured by John Murphy and Emori, which made McCreary very upset with her. When Murphy told McCreary that Abby's medical treatment helped cure Diyoza's people, McCreary got angry at Diyoza for keeping this a secret from him. He then tries to kill her but, but stops when she reveals that she is pregnant. Despite Diyoza being the mother of his unborn daughter McCreary told her right after the baby would be born he was going to kill her. This never happened as McCreary got killed by Clarke after he made Earth an unsurvivable planet. Diyoza did not feel upset by his death because of his despicable actions.

Miles Shaw[]

Shaw and McCreary are completely different. That lead to tensions between them. McCreary wanted to kill Shaw several times, but because he was the only pilot, he didn't do that. He threatened to cut off Shaw's legs, because he didn't need his legs to fly the ship. He later tortured Shaw by extracting his teeth and crushing his legs.
