I'm generally a pleasant person. If the demon comes out, you pull that trigger.
— Vinson to Kane and Abby [src]

Michael Vinson was a recurring character in the fifth season. He was portrayed by Mike Dopud and debuted in "Shifting Sands".

Vinson was a prisoner aboard Eligius IV and was awakened by Miles Shaw and Charmaine Diyoza.

In "Damocles (Part 1)", he was later killed by Abigail Griffin, who electrocuted him to death.

Early Life[]

Vinson was a serial killer. According to Miles Shaw, he kept his victims' hands and feet as mementos. He also appears to be a cannibal, feeding on his victims' bodies. At one point he was caught, and he was one of the prisoners sent on Eligius IV to an Asteroid Mining Penal Colony.

Throughout the Series[]

In Shifting Sands, Charmaine Diyoza asked Dr. Abigail Griffin to examine him. When Marcus Kane questions why Vinson is wearing a shock collar, Diyoza explains that Vinson has trouble controlling his "more primal urges". Diyoza then hands the collar remote to Kane. A bit later, Diyoza notices that Vinson has picked up a scalpel. She tells him to put it down and shocks him until he drops it. As she leaves, Diyoza tells Abby and Kane, "Keep your hands and feet away from his mouth and you should be fine."

In How We Get to Peace, Abby examines him. She discovers one of the abscesses burst open due to the sound waves. She gets an idea to use sound waves to treat him but she requires more power. Vinson gets up and he accidentally scares Abby. He then gets dressed and goes and retrieves one of the mining drills, however Abby says they need an engineer. Vinson goes to retrieve Raven Reyes in the church. Miles Shaw tries to stop Raven from going with him, but she goes anyway. After Raven increases power on Abby's machine, Abby successfully treats Vinson.

In Sic Semper Tyrannis, he is in the building being used as doctors' office spying for Abby and Diyoza. He alerts them that Paxton McCreary is coming. Diyoza tells Vinson to hide the machine and himself, he does. He then pretends to come in the front door when McCreary threatens Abby and Dioyza and asks if he is too early for his check-up and McCreary leaves.

In The Warriors Will, he helps Abby get her pills so that she doesn't die from withdrawal symptoms. However, the guards find out that he obtained the pills that McCreary confiscated and Vinson brutally rips their throats out with his teeth. Though Abby considers using his shock collar, she chooses to grab the pills instead. Vinson promises to clean up when he's done and apparently feasts on his victims' corpses.

In Damocles (Part 1), he is first seen watching Abby and Kane talk in the gas station through a window. After Abby leaves, he walks into the building and confronts Kane, stating that Abby took the trigger for his shock collar with her when she left. Kane proceeds to tell him that Abby is gone. Vinson tells Kane that he is here to see him. Vinson explains that he is the one who supplied Abby's drugs and even though she's clean, something like the death of a loved one might drive Abby back into her addiction.

Realizing what Vinson means, Kane grabs for a scalpel, but Vinson gets it first, stabbing Kane five times in the abdomen. Despite his injuries, Kane manages to fight back, knocking Vinson to the ground and his glasses off. However, Vinson quickly recovers, slams Kane into the table and several times and bites into his neck, apparently trying to tear his throat out. Before Vinson can succeed, Abby returns and activates Vinson's shock collar, getting him off of Kane. Enraged by his actions, rather than stop once Vinson has been stopped, Abby turns the shock collar's power up to full and electrocutes Vinson to death. With Vinson dead, Abby begins struggling to treat Kane's injuries.

In Damocles (Part 2), Abby is still struggling to stabilize Kane from Vinson's attack when the Damocles Event begins. With Octavia's help, Abby gets Kane to the Gagarin dropship just in time, but his injuries are such that Abby has to put Kane into a medically-induced coma and then into cryo to keep him alive.

In Red Sun Rising, Abby successfully performs surgery on Kane, apparently saving him from the injuries Vinson inflicted, but he later collapses and has to be returned to cryo.

In The Old Man and the Anomaly, Kane dies of his injuries from Vinson's attack but is resurrected in the body of Gavin, a Sanctum guard thanks to Nightblood and the Mind Drive technology.

Personality[]

He was very polite and reserved, but underneath that he was a serial killer who couldn't control his urge to kill which he typically did by ripping throats out with his own teeth. He was also very smart. He is known to take his victims' hands and feet as mementos and appears to be a cannibal, seemingly feeding on two Eligius prisoners he killed. He was considered to be so dangerous that even the other prisoners kept his shock collar on to control Vinson and ensure that he wouldn't turn on them. As stated by Vinson himself, he is unburdened by conscience, making Vinson a psychopath. His behavior suggests that he is very likely insane as well.

Physical Appearance[]

Vinson is tall and strong. He has very short blonde hair, almost bald. He also wears rectangular black glasses.

Relationships[]

Main Article:  Abigail and Vinson

He felt a weakness for Abigail Griffin. He killed two Eligius prisoners to give her pills. He wanted her to be addicted to the drugs, comparing it to his need to kill. He attacked Marcus Kane in the hopes Abby would go back to pills. However, this backfired as it only caused Abby to kill him in retaliation.
