Take care of our boy.
— Harper to Bellamy and Clarke [src]

Harper McIntyre was a recurring character in the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth seasons. She was portrayed by Chelsey Reist and debuted in "I Am Become Death".

Harper was one of the Delinquents sent to Earth to see if it could support human life. Harper was one of the twenty Gunners in The Camp. She was among the delinquents taken by Mount Weather. Harper had her bone marrow harvested and was saved along with Monty when Jasper and Dante intervened on Dr. Tsing's project. She and Monty have been in a relationship since season three. She struggled with survivor's guilt and depression in Season Four, but eventually re-joined Monty and helped bring several survivors to the Ring, in order to wait out Praimfaya. After humanity is forced to flee to space in the Mothership at the end of Season Five, Harper and Monty choose not to go into cryo-sleep; about two years later they have a son, Jordan. Since Earth was believed to never recover, they put Jordan into cryo-sleep at age twenty-six so that he can choose his own life. Harper later passes away of an unspecified genetic condition in her seventies.

Early Life[]

Sometime while living on the Ark, Harper was arrested. Because she was under 18, she was sent to the Skybox instead of being executed. She was one of the 100 send down to Earth to see if it was survivable for humans again.

At some point, Harper's father suffered from a hereditary illness, which possibly led to his death.

Throughout the Series[]

In I Am Become Death, Harper asks Jasper to tell the story again about how he killed two Grounders at the bridge. She later comes to get Jasper for his shift on watch duty and asks him if she can come to his tent later but he turns her down telling Monty that she is "low hanging fruit". Later, as they prepare for the imminent Grounder attack, Jasper tells her to not worry because he has her back. When Jasper and Monty return to The Camp after blowing up the bridge, Harper lets everyone know they made it back.

In We Are Grounders (Part 1), after Miller warns the Delinquents that someone is approaching the wall, she prepares to fire her gun but it turns out to be Clarke and Finn.

In We Are Grounders (Part 2), Harper, along with the rest of the delinquents, leaves camp and head for the sea. She walks near the front of the group, armed with her gun. During the battle with the Grounders, she and Jasper share a foxhole while they shoot at Grounders. She retreats into the drop ship with the rest of the Delinquents as the Grounders break through the wall and watches as Jasper manages to incinerate the attacking Grounders. When the sun rises Harper and the other survivors exit the drop ship and inspect the charred corpses around the camp. The Mountain Men then knock them out with gas grenades that are thrown into the camp and Harper is taken back to their base in Mount Weather.

In Fog of War, Harper is first seen at Mount Weather, where Jasper is trying to convince the rest of The 100 to donate their blood to the Mountain Men to help their cause. The 100 are aware of the treatment, which leads Harper to say no. Later she is seen recovering from the treatment, showing that Jasper managed to convince her to donate blood to them. She is most concerned about Clarke, however, whom she believes to be dead.

In Long Into an Abyss, Harper is seen talking with Jasper, Monty, Miller and two other delinquents about what they are going to do. She says that she is tired or puking. She suggests they escape but then agrees to Jasper's idea of finding out the truth instead. She, Jasper, Monty, and Miller make into Dante Wallace's office. After Jasper tells her to stand guard, she bickers with him about why she should have to do it. She ultimately agrees and she goes to stand guard. Later when Miller and Monty are looking at the information they found in Dante's office, Jasper comes up and tells them that Harper didn't show up for breakfast. The say no and Miller says that he hasn't seen her since they were at Dante's office. She is then seen restrained on a hospital bed in the same room Lincoln was in with Cage Wallace and Dr. Lorelei Tsing. She pleads with them to let her go as Dr. Tsing makes an incision in her hip. She says that she wants to go home and Cage bends down and tells her that they do too. Dr. Tsing then begins to drill into her hip as she screams.

In Remember Me, Monty finds Harper in a terrible state when he is put in a cage underneath her.

In Coup de Grâce, she is seen having a bone marrow performed on her by Dr. Tsing, with Monty watching in terror. Suddenly, however, Dante Wallace and Jasper walk in and save Harper, taking her and Monty back to safety. Later, she is seen lying on a Bunk Bed, getting a drink from Monty while he holds her hand.

In Resurrection, she is seen helping the other Delinquents prepare to fight off the Mountain Men. When she holds a gun, Miller tells her to aim close because she could hurt the other Delinquents if she doesn't. Later, when Maya runs out of oxygen, she tells the others she doesn't have much time left and Maya tells her that's not helping. She is among the remaining 44 and gets divided along with the others.

In Blood Must Have Blood (Part 2), Harper is chained to the wall of the Delinquents bedroom with the other Delinquents and Sky People. When Mount Weather guards begin to die around them, she tells Jasper to come back when he runs out of the room to see if Maya is okay after Level 5 has been radiated. Soon after that, she is seen hugging Monty and is then seen walking into Camp Jaha for the first time alongside the other Delinquents and Sky People.

In Wanheda (Part 1), she is seen with a group being trained to fight by Lincoln. She watches as he spars with Bellamy. Bellamy has Harper give Lincoln a uniform that the Council wants him to have. Lincoln tells her and the rest of the group to pair up and fight while he leaves with Bellamy.

In Watch the Thrones, Harper stands beside Lincoln and Monroe to stop Pike, Bellamy and a group of Sky People from leaving Arkadia and go destroy the Grounder army outside the gates. However, after Bellamy tells them to step aside, they both leave.

In Terms and Conditions, she is seen spying on Pike's meeting along with Kane and Miller. Later on, she shares her worries about the fact that Octavia had not yet reported back to Arkadia. Next, she is seen electrocuting a guard, fighting along the Grounders during their riot. At the end of that day, Kane is caught by Pike. Miller and Harper sit around a campfire and exchange glances. Bellamy and Monty decide to not give up her name when questioned if they found other traitors.

In A Lie Guarded, Harper gets mad at Clarke because she isn't on the list. It was revealed in that her father died from an unknown genetic illness that Harper may also contract in the future, which is why she was left off of Clarke's list.

In The Other Side, Harper starts to get sick off the rising radiation. Monty tries to convince her to leave by saying she's a fighter and telling her that he loves her. Harper rejects him by saying that she doesn't love him enough to live and that she isn't worth dying for. Later, after the rest of the kids still at Arkadia have died by overdosing on drugs to avoid dying of radiation, Monty finds Harper still alive. They embrace and she tells him that she loves him.

Personality[]

Harper is a strong and brave individual. She also shows great care and love towards her fellow delinquents, seeing as she volunteered as a Gunner and later a Guard to protect them. She has a strong sense of what is right, helping Monty, Jasper, Miller, and Maya investigate Mount Weather, and siding with Kane against Pike’s anti-Grounder movement. After finding out that Praimfaya will destroy the world, and failing to save Louis from the black rain, Harper becomes depressed, feeling that life is not worth living, but changes her mind after seeing how much Monty cares for her. She is shown to be very supportive of those she loves, being a team player while Spacekru is on the Ring, and helping her friends when they are trying to help Wonkru get to the valley. However, she also becomes disillusioned with the continuous fighting, supporting Monty’s plan to make the hydrofarm work again versus going to war. At the end of her life, she chooses to die with Monty so the rest of her friends can find a better future in a new home.

Physical Appearance[]

Harper has a slim build with long blonde hair and brown eyes. In Season four she kept her hair in a single braid.

In Season 5, after the six years jump, her hair is half pulled up and half down.

Relationships[]

Main article: Jasper and Harper
Harper seemed to have a crush on Jasper. Not much interaction has been shown between the two, however, Harper did start to flirt with Jasper. She seems to admire his bravery when he blew up the bomb on the bridge in I Am Become Death, and asks him to tell her the story of how he did it. However, Jasper politely rejects her because, according to him, she is a "low-hanging fruit" compared to Octavia. While staying in Mount Weather, they become good friends.

Main article: Monty and Harper

Harper and Monty become close once they are in Mount Weather, and even closer when they are both caged in for marrow extraction purposes.

In Coup de Grâce, Monty tries to protect her from Dr. Tsing's procedures asking her to stop because she is too weak and proceeding to yell and trying to break away from the cell to protect her. Later in that episode, Monty seems to be taking care of her when they are back in the dorms, affectionately holding her hand and handing her a hot beverage.

In Rubicon, Monty is seen standing by her side and holding her arm to help her stand. He also fights the hardest when the guards were taking her away. Similarly, Harper is very preoccupied when the guards start taking Monty trying to fight to free him, although it is revealed that she is still very weak.

In Blood Must Have Blood (Part 2), they are reunited with each other after everyone in Mount Weather has died. Monty sees Harper and runs to her, they share an embrace and Harper's face lights up in relief that her friend is safe.

In Season Three they are originally on opposing sides, but when Monty realizes what Pike is doing is wrong, they work together. In the episode Red Sky at Morning, they sleep together.

In Perverse Instantiation (Part 1), Monty is concerned over Harper because of Jasper, who injures her.

Notes and Trivia[]

  • Harper was first introduced as a possible love interest for Jasper.
  • She was a Gunner in Bellamy's Militia.
  • Harper was supposed to vomit to death in "I Am Become Death" (of the virus that killed Derek and other delinquents). Chelsey Reist was looking forward to the scene, but then it was cut and stuck around longer.[1]
  • Chelsey revealed that she had filmed a scene in which Harper kissed Jasper during "We Are Grounders (Part 2)". The two would have been seen shooting at the Grounders from inside a bunker until Harper kisses him, claiming to want to go "out with a bang". The scene was cut for unknown reasons.[2]
  • She is the first of the 48 to be forcibly taken by the Mountain Men to have her bone marrow harvested.
    • In a deleted scene from "Long Into an Abyss", while standing guard, Harper is discovered by Dr. Lorelei Tsing. Harper claims she is lost and Tsing says she will guide her back to the dorm, only to lead her to the experiment room to extract her bone marrow.
  • In Season Three, she is seen siding with Kane, not approving of Pike's "fascist ass". Along with Miller and Kane, she spies on Pike's meetings about coming up with new plans to attack the Grounders, later providing that information to Octavia.
  • Chelsey confirmed on Twitter that Harper's last name "McIntyre" was derived from that of one of the show's writers Wade McIntyre. It wasn't mentioned on the show until the flashback scene in "Join or Die" where John Murphy calls her by her last name.[3]
  • In "A Lie Guarded", it was revealed that Harper's father had a hereditary illness which Harper was at risk of inheriting. This was proven true in her old age.
  • Chelsey Reist is credited as a co-star from her first appearance in "I Am Become Death" until "Wanheda (Part 1)", where from then on she is credited as guest starring.
  • In "Damocles (Part 2)", Harper is shown pregnant in a video. This makes her the third pregnant character shown in the series, the first two being Aurora Blake and Charmaine Diyoza.
  • Harper died on February 8th 2206.
  • Bob Morley and Chelsey Reist confirmed in an Interview on YouTube that Harper was arrested for beating her Ex-Boyfriend to death because he cheated on her.
