If I become Heda, I pledge my loyalty to the thirteenth clan.
— Aden to Clarke [src]

Aden was a recurring character in the third season. He was portrayed by actor Cory Gruter-Andrew and debuted in "Ye Who Enter Here".

Aden was a Grounder born with nightblood, and as such was trained from birth to be a warrior to possibly become the next Commander. However, he was murdered by Ontari, being decapitated in his sleep prior to the conclave along with the other nightblood commander novitiates.

Early Life[]

Aden was born a Nightblood, he was brought to Polis with the other natblidas novitiates where he was taught how to fight and trained for the Conclave with the possibility of becoming the Commander. Not much is known about Aden, what clan he was from besides that most likely flame keeper scouts found him and he was brought to Polis or he was given up and was brought to the capital Polis. His clan he was born to, or where he was born is unknown.

Throughout the Series[]

In Ye Who Enter Here, Aden is briefly seen sparring with Lexa. Lexa praises him during their sparring session and later tells Titus that Aden was a better fighter than she was at his age.

In Watch the Thrones, Aden is among the Nightbloods listening to Lexa speak before she fights Roan. When the rest of the Nightbloods are called away by Titus, Lexa calls Aden back to introduce him to Clarke. Lexa refers to him as the most promising of the Nightbloods and is confident that if she should die, her spirit would pick him to succeed her as the next Commander. Aden assures Clarke of the safety of her people if he becomes Commander.

Aden watches Lexa's fight with Roan along with the other Nightbloods. When the fight is over, Aden is relieved to see Lexa has survived.

In Thirteen, Aden is with the other Nightbloods as Lexa addresses them on Ascension Day before Semet interrupts them.

In Stealing Fire, Aden is seen conducting the purification ritual with the other natblidas before the conclave. Clarke comes to see him and asks him if he'll still support her people. He says he and the other nightbloods all will as Lexa made them vow it. Aden is killed by Ontari who murders the nightbloods while they sleep in order to win the conclave.

Personality[]

Aden appeared to be a polite, kind and genuine boy when he spoke to Clarke about what should happen if he becomes Heda. He also seemed to genuinely care about Lexa, being very determined to keep his promise to her to protect the Sky People if he becomes Commander. He is also shown to have a protective side when he attempted to stop Ontari from attacking Clarke.

Physical Appearance[]

Aden was a scrawny young boy with messy, sandy blonde hair and blue eyes. He was average height for his age. He was usually seen wearing light armor consisting of a long sleeve black shirt, black pants, black boots, and a vest.

Relationships[]

Aden is one of the Nightblood novitiates training to potentially succeed Lexa as the Commander one day. In Ye Who Enter Here, Lexa and Aden are seen sparring during a training session. She praises him when he manages to block her attacks, then looks shock when he lands a hit on her. Lexa tells Titus that Aden is ready for the Conclave and admits that he is a better fighter than she was at his age.

Lexa introduces Clarke to Aden in "Watch the Thrones". She tells Clarke that Aden is her most promising novitiate and that he will likely succeed her should she die in her duel with Roan. Later that day, Aden is present during Lexa's fight and is visibly relieved when she wins.

After Lexa's death, Aden reassures Clarke in "Stealing Fire" that all the Nightbloods will honor their word to support the Sky People should one of them become Commander because they all loved Lexa.

Aden was one of the 7 nightblood novitiates to the commander Lexa before her death. Lexa was sparring with Aden in Ye Who Enter Here then later praises about Aden to Titus how he was a better fighter than she was at his age and her conclave with the previous commander nightblood novitiates including her and Luna.

Titus knew that Aden was Lexa choice to be the next commander (her successor) and she thought him to be the most promising out of her Natblida novitiates.

In Stealing Fire Aden and the other nightblood novitiates were beheaded while they slept by Ontari because she wanted to be the next Commander, Ontari never ended up becoming the true commander though (never had the flame), and she didn’t follow conclave rules. She held up Aden’s head in front of everybody including Titus then kicked a bag filled with the other 6 nightbloods, children that Titus raised, he was upset at seeing how Aden was beheaded along with the others after she kicked the bag filled with the other nightblood novitiates heads, Titus ended up shedding a tear.
